GLOBAL GRANT INITIATIVE TO BE DESCRIBED

On Tuesday, December 3, 2024, Katie Zimmerman and Sandy Schneider will be the speakers at the meeting of the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset.  They will share information about their visit to Hiep Duc, Vietnam to view the completed Rotary global grant sanitation project at the Hiep Duc High School.

Two years ago, Linda Burn, the Executive Director of the Children’s Education Foundation in Vietnam and Ha Nguyen from Rotary Club of DaNang contacted Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset about this proposed Global Grant project.  Five Rotary Clubs from Rotary Hawaii District 5000, clubs from Rotary California District 5170, Rotary Club of Paramus, New Jersey and Rotary Club of Yamato Mahoroba in Japan assisted in providing funding for this $42,000 project.

In September, Sandy Schneider, the Past President of the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset, along with Community Service Director Katie Zimmerman, made a trip to Vietnam to inspect the completed renovations at Hiep Duc High School. The school is situated 60 miles southwest of DaNang.  Schneider and Zimmerman were accompanied by fellow Rotarians from various supporting clubs to witness the improvements made to the girls’ dormitory. These enhancements included modernized bathrooms, new handwashing stations and showers, a solar water heater, updated roofing for the dormitory buildings, and a newly constructed covered area for outdoor activities. They look forward to sharing their detailed experiences from this impactful visit.

The meeting will be held in in the classroom building at Sacred Hearts School, located at 2530 Kekaa Drive, Kaanapali, Lahaina.  Social time is at 5:00 pm.  Program is from 5:30-6:30 pm.
