Leaders of the Kamehameha III School Hoike will share about this event
On Tuesday, June 3, 2025, two leaders of the Hoike at Kamehameha III School will be the speakers at the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset meeting. Courtney Sakalosky and Darice Garcia will share details of this very special cultural event.
The annual Ho‘ike celebration at King Kamehameha III School was held each year to honor and celebrate the birthday of King Kamehameha III. Despite the loss of school facilities, belongings, and supplies, the school staff was committed to continuing this important celebration. King Kamehameha III was a pivotal leader who championed access to education for all children, regardless of their family background. This event is a vital learning opportunity for all students at the school, allowing them to engage in the celebration and gain firsthand insight into its cultural significance. Each student participated in this meaningful event, with additional opportunities for exploration and reflection supported by grade-level teachers.
The school staff received a grant from the Rotary D5000 Foundation Maui Fires Relief Fund to replace costumes and accessories lost in the Lahaina fires. Countney and Darice will share photos and details of this special event, which was made possible by the financial support of the Rotary D5000 Foundation.
The meeting will be held at the classroom building at Sacred Hearts School, located in Ka`anapali at 2530 Keka`a Drive, Lahaina, 96761. Social time and ordering food from Penne Pasta Food Truck is at 5:00 p.m. Program is from 5:30-6:30 pm. To attend in person, email Club Service Chair Laura Stanton at lstanton127@outlook.com.
