Founder of Maui Hero Project to be Virtual Speaker
Loren Lapow, Founder and Director of the Maui Hero Project will make a presentation to the Zoom meeting of the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 19th.    His presentation will feature information about this unique project for Maui youth.

The Maui Hero Project fuses disaster preparedness training with the Maui cultural stories, and adds in the adventure, search and rescue component.  By re-tracing the Maui myths, youth are experientially taught core Teen CERT skills, such as fire safety and suppression, light search and rescue, medical operations, CPR/AED, first aid, victim stabilization, and disaster psychology and terrorism to assist others if disaster strikes.  The Teen CERT- Hero Project targets intermediate and high school aged students between 13-19 years of age.  The graduates of the program receive 100 hours of disaster preparedness education and mitigation skill training through cultural, adventure activities.  Lapow will share a video and slide presentation about this program and will be available to answer questions of the meeting participants.
