Lahaina Sunset donates 40 boxes and bags of school supplies and $850 cash!
Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset President Heidi Dollinger and Vocational Service Chair Tori Taylor presented 40 boxes and bags of school supplies and a check for $850 to the students at Hana School for school supplies.  Youth Service Chair Erica Gale provided the large van for the transport of these supplies to the school.  Hana School has been “adopted” by the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset to be the beneficiary of annual school supplies drives and other youth-related projects.

The funds and over 20 boxes of school supplies were collected at the club’s School Supplies Drive held at the Lahaina Cannery Mall in September.  Upon learning that Hana School needed School Supplies, Karen Twitchell, a teacher at Kamehameha III Schoo, approached her staff to help support the children.  Another 20 boxes and bags collected from Kamehameha III teachers were added to the ones collected at the drive. Of special note was a large financial contribution from Lahaina restaurant owners, Mark and Judy Ellman

According to President Dollinger: “Hana is more than 70 miles from Lahaina and it traverses 52 one-way bridges to get there, but it is not far from the minds of our club members.  We recognize there is a need in the community to help families and teachers with the cost of school supplies for education.”  Dollinger and Taylor were enthusiastically greeted and cheered by all of the 4thgrade students, their teachers, and Principal Christopher Sanita.
