Ka La'i Ola Interim Housing Director to speak to Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset on September 17.
On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, Kimo Carvalho will be the speaker at the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset meeting. Mr. Carvalho will share information about Ka La‘i Ola: A HomeAid Hawaii Interim Housing Development Program for Maui Wildfire Survivors
As the Executive Director of HomeAid Hawaii, Carvalho leads the organization’s mission to build housing solutions for people experiencing homelessness and who are at risk of a housing crisis. Under his leadership, HomeAid Hawaii is currently the lead developer for Governor Green’s Kauhale Initiative and Maui Interim Housing Programs aimed at building more than 1,045 homes across the State of Hawaii. With 17 years of experience in healthcare, human services, and construction, his career has been at the intersection of developing housing solutions and solving socio-economic challenges facing disadvantaged people. Carvalho will provide an overview of Ka La‘i Ola – West Maui’s largest interim housing development and program since the 2023 wildfires, and a public-private partnership between the State of Hawaii, Hawaii Community Foundation, and the building industry. He will provide a status update on construction, area improvements, planned residential services, and long-term plans for the site. Finally, he will provide areas for support and need for potential partnerships and collaboration with Rotarians.
