At the final meeting of 2016 our own Larry and Joanne Laird presented information about Read Aloud America and the upcoming RAP program at Princess Nahienaena School in Lahaina. Larry spoke about the history of Read Aloud America on Maui, program components, and how the Lairds became the directors of this small non-profit family literacy program. Joanne shared how Volunteer Readers were needed and distributed sign-up forms. Just like at a RAP program there were drawings at the conclusion of their presentation – two lucky winners won books. Foundation Chair Phylecia Platte presented Sandy Schneider with her Paul Harris +1 Recognition Award – a nice parting recognition as she is leaving our island for a new job in Florida. Sandy’s parents were attending our meeting on their final visit to Maui before Sandy leaves. President Melissa spoke about our Signature Fundraiser to be held on St. Patrick’s Day – she distributed the first sign up list calling for volunteers to work on the planning committee. Membership Chair Mariko shared the results of the Ignite Membership Program – our club now qualifies as Premier Status due to our membership activities and inductions of new members. Everyone was reminded about the December 20th Holiday Social/Going Away Party for Sandy to be held at Pi Artisan Pizza on Front Street. All members who are adopting a child at the Lahaina Children’s Shelter should bring their wrapped gifts to this event. And don’t forget to bring a gift valued at $20 for the “fun and frantic” Santa Gift Swap activity – don’t want to miss out on the fun!
