The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset, West Maui’s evening Rotary club, is beginning its sixth year of service to the West Maui community.  The club was named Rotary’s Small Club of the Year in the Hawaiian Islands for three consecutive years when clubs were recognized for their multiple service activities.
“We’re proud of our service to this community,” states Mariko Higashi, Past President and Membership Chair.   “And there is so much more we want to do.  Our goal with this “Friendraiser” is to meet some new friends, folks who may be willing to join us in working on projects to support the needs of the West Maui community.”
This club has co-sponsored with Malama Maui Nui the Third Saturday Recycling program at the Lahaina Cannery Mall since 2015.  Known as the “Go for the Green” Rotary Club, it also provides scholarships to high school graduates who will major in Environmental Studies.  This past year this vibrant club led efforts in conjunction with the four Maui Coastal Rotary Clubs to install and maintain over 100 Rescue Tubes in South and West Maui Beach parks.  Additionally, this club sponsors the annual “Go for the Green” Fundraising event each year on St. Patrick’s Day weekend.  The event is scheduled this year on Friday, March 13th
“We know that Maui residents are looking for ways to give back to this community,” states President Heidi Dollinger.   “Rotary provides the perfect avenue to do this.  In Rotary we believe many hands make light work.  Rotary members gladly volunteer our time, and we always get back more than we give,” states Dollinger.
